Bowfinger (1999)

Fun Movie

Bowfinger (1999)—now that is Steve Martin at his most deliciously sneaky.

It’s a sharp, fast-paced Hollywood satire where Martin plays Bobby Bowfinger, a desperate, bottom-rung filmmaker who’s determined to make his masterpiece... without a budget, without studio backing, and—here’s the kicker—without the star even knowing he’s in the movie.

Enter Eddie Murphy (in dual roles, no less), bringing both comedy muscle and razor-sharp timing to the table. One of his roles is a paranoid, mega-famous action star. The other? Well... let’s just say he's not quite as intense.

This movie is bonkers in the best way. It’s about the delusions of showbiz, the madness of movie-making, and the wild lengths people will go to just to make it in Hollywood. And underneath all that? A surprisingly smart critique of ego, ambition, and cult-like industry weirdness.

Martin’s script is tight, the cast is fantastic, and the tone hits that rare sweet spot between slapstick and sharp satire. It’s silly, clever, and weirdly inspiring—like watching the underdog throw a Hail Mary with duct tape and sheer delusion.

7/10
