Bedknobs & Broomsticks (1971)
Set in England during World War II, the film follows three evacuated children who are sent to live with Miss Eglantine Price, an eccentric woman who is secretly studying witchcraft.
She isn't quite the ordinary Englishwoman she appears to be!
The children gradually become involved in her magical adventures, along with a rather unusual fellow named Professor Emelius Browne.
What makes it special?
Angela Lansbury is wonderful as Miss Price. She's independent, stubborn, funny, and quite determined.
David Tomlinson provides plenty of comedy as Professor Browne.
The music gives the film that unmistakable old Disney charm.
The animation and live-action combination is one of the film's great attractions.
The atmosphere mixes British wartime life, magic, comedy, and adventure.
A little background
The film was released in 1971 and combines two stories by British author Mary Norton.
It was also one of the major Disney productions of its era, with some ambitious special effects and animation.
