Hang 'Em High (1968)

If You Hang Clint Eastwood

Then You Better Make Sure He's Really Dead

Eastwood is Jed Cooper, a retired lawman that is falsely accused of cattle rustling, murder and lying by 9 men in a posse. After Cooper is hanged, all the men leave but Marshal Dave Bliss is nearby and saves Cooper before his final breathe. The marshal takes Cooper in front of the judge of the territory, Adam Fenton, who finds Cooper innocent. Fenton makes Cooper a marshal and Copper then has a big job to do.

Judge Adam Fenton is based on the real life judge Hangin' Judge Issac Parker in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Parker was the judge over a large portion of the Oklahoma Territory.

The film is really about how tough it is to be a lawman of that time era. It's also about corruption in the court system.

Pretty good western - recommended.

7/10.
