The Quest (1996)

Typical Modern Martial Arts Film

I found this one nothing special - it does not stand out in the crowd of martial arts films on the market. It's not a bad story but it's just so typical of the modern martial arts films we see today. Of course with Van Damme we add kickboxing to the martial arts, karate.

The opening scene was a little bit fun to view. Van Damme in a bar as a older man, 3 hoodlums come in to rob the bartender and naturally Van Damme got the attention of one and floored him, then the 2nd was soon on the floor and the 3rd was let go. Then he tells his story to the bartender of how he learned to fight like that... so back in time we go to find out.

If you like Bloodsport then you might like The Quest, but Bloodsport is the better of the two films. I'll say that if you've seen one Van Damme film then you've pretty much seen them all: it's just kickboxing and karate put into an action film.

3/10
