"Star Trek" The City on the Edge of Forever (1967)

McCoy's Temporary Insanity And Time Travel

Season 1, episode 28. The Enterprise encounters ripples in time causing the ship to shake and injuring Sulu. McCoy to inject Sulu with cordrazine - that awaken him - but the ship shakes more violently causing McCoy to accidentally inject himself with it - it's an overdose. McCoy acts violently and beams to a strange planet. Kirk, Spock and a small away crew beams to the planet. While searching for McCoy they find an archway that is it's on beginning and ending - it is a speaking, thinking time portal. While playing back earth's history for the group, Mr. Spock starts recording the portal and it's viewing screen when McCoy decides to jump though it. The Enterprise and McCoy vanish, the group is stuck on the planet with no past and no future with a time portal. They decide to playback Spock's recording to get an estimate as to exactly when McCoy jumped through. The time portal played back earth's history for them, Kirk and Spock jump through and land in the 1930s hoping they got though just before McCoy arrived. Spock and Kirk met Sister Edith Keeler who helped them by giving them a place to stay and food in exchange for their services/work. In the meantime Spock builds a processor to interface with his tricorder to find McCoy only to learn that when McCoy came though the time portal he changed history. Now it's up to Kirk and Spock set history back straight and get back to their own century.

It's a really good episode dealing with time travel and how history could possibly be changed if slightly tampered with. I doubt that an actual time portal could speak but it makes the episode a bit more fun that way.

8.5/10
