Parenthood (1989)

Cute Film

Parenthood (1989) is one of those rare comedies that juggles heart, humor, and real-life mess without dropping a single ball. Directed by Ron Howard, it’s a warm, chaotic, funny-as-hell snapshot of what it means to be a parent, a child, a spouse—or some unlucky mix of all three.

Steve Martin leads a stacked ensemble cast, playing a man just trying to do right by his family while slowly unraveling under the pressures of parenthood. You get all the stages of family life—from snot-nosed toddlers to angsty teens, from first dates to full-on identity crises—and the beauty is, everyone’s a little bit lost.

This isn’t a broad, goofy comedy. It’s sharp, grounded, and deeply human. The laughs come from the truth of it—the awkward dinners, the parenting fails, the love that somehow holds the chaos together.

You’ll laugh, you’ll nod, maybe even tear up a little. It’s that kind of film. Relatable without being preachy, sentimental without turning to sap.

It’s Steve Martin with heart and depth, and it might just be one of his most human performances. Definitely a must-watch if you like your comedy with a pulse.

8/10
