Audrey Rose (1977)

A Very Good Horror Thriller

Audrey Rose (1977) is a psychological horror-drama that leans hard into the eerie tension of the unknown, rather than typical ghost story thrills. It centers on a young girl named Ivy and her family, who begin experiencing a series of strange events that draw the attention of a mysterious man named Elliot Hoover (played by Anthony Hopkins).

Elliot believes something deeply personal and profound about Ivy—and his obsession with her begins to unravel the family’s normal life. What follows is a slow, intense unraveling of belief systems, sanity, and trust. The film raises chilling questions about identity, grief, reincarnation, and how far someone might go in the name of love—or delusion.

It’s got that moody, serious tone the '70s excelled at, more concerned with dread than jump scares. It’s a story that slowly worms into your head and stays there, especially if you’re into psychological horror with philosophical undercurrents.

8.5/10
