Superb Cinema
I grew up watching this film whenever they would play it on the TV. I recently acquired the film on DVD and re-watched ti all these years later - and I must say it's superb cinema.
James Mason is perfect as the arrogant, callous, mysterious and brooding Captain Nemo. Mason really brings the character to life. The rest of the star cast is also outstanding in this seaworthy adventure but I can't say enough about Mason's performance!
The special effects are incredible for 1954 - still holds up today. Those underwater shoots are mesmerizing!
It's hard to believe this gem is a Walt Disney classic because it's so good and different than other Disney films of the era. "Leagues" is a dark film peppered with some lighter moments but it film the entire family can enjoy. I watched this film as a kid and was taken in by the tale.
Enjoyable and highly recommended viewing for film buffs.
