The Stranger (1946)

Great Little Film Noir

I knew this one would be good - and it is! Filmed very dark and mysterious with a good story line to go with it. Wonderful cinematography and acting - a movie well worth watching.

Edward G. Robinson is Mr. Wilson, a man that works for the war crimes division and is after a man named Franz Kindler aka Professor Charles Rankin (Orson Wells) who is a man on the run and a Nazi war criminal. Kindler disguises himself as Charles Rankin, a professor at a university and ends up marrying Mary Longstreet (Loretta Young) who is the daughter of Judge Adam Longstreet (Philip Merivale) and the sister of Noah Longstreet (Richard Long). The dead giveaway as to the real identity of Professor Rankin lies in his love of clocks. You'll have to watch the film to see how all this fits together - I won't spoil the film for first time viewers.

Excellent film noir - I was not disappointed!

9/10
