Guest in the House (1944)

I Love Aunt Martha

Evelyn Heath is under the care of her doctor boyfriend Dr. Dan Proctor. Dan brings Evelyn to the home of his extended family because he feels this will help Evelyn with her psychological recovery. Little does Dan or the rest of his family know that Evelyn is far from being well, she is in fact the house guest from hell. Dan ends up leaving the picture for awhile to go back to work leaving the poor family with Evelyn.

Evelyn will use her sweet facade to manipulate others to get what she is wanting - turning kin against kin. When she walked into the home she decided she liked/wanted their home and when she met Dan's brother Douglas she decided she wanted Douglas as well. Everything seemingly happens naturally but when they (the family) get their heads together and realize all their troubles started when Evelyn arrived. At least Evelyn started showing her true colors at the end in front of all. Only one man could not see - that was Dan when he came back to the house because Evelyn called him to put on one last show. Dan does not know just how bad it got around there and was willing to marry Evelyn in the last... that is until Aunt Martha got fed up with Evelyn in the very end.

I hated Evelyn the moment she entered the picture -- she got all that was coming to her in the end.

8.5/10
