The Giant Gila Monster (1959)

A Weird Giant Monster Flick

A weird film concerning a giant monster to say the least. Is the movie an awful b-rated horror flick? Yes and no - it's "ok". There are much better b-rated horror films but there are much worse too; this one I found mediocre.

I did find the friendship between Sheriff Jeff and Chase Winstead pretty cool - that aspect of the film was interesting to me - more interesting than the giant gila monster.

As far as the giant gila monster goes, that was ok. They used a real gila monster so it was not totally fake looking monster. The writers found a way to make some sort of sense as to how and why the creature was so huge - I could buy into it (suspend my beliefs) in order to watch this or any other giant creature film. Plausible? No. Fun? Yes.

The big question is: Is the movie worth watching? Sure it is if you like movies surrounding giant creatures. It's not really what one would call a good b-rated flick but it does have a bit campy fun that can be worth watching.
Just for fun and keeping in mind the movie is dated 1959 and the year I am posting this review is 2015: In the film Chase told the radio personality that he'd take $2.00 for fixing/towing the car; in today's money that would equate to about $16.26.  The man ended up giving Chase $40.00 and in today's money that is about $325.22. (According to the US Inflation Calculator).

4.5/10
