Return of the Fly (1959)

Like Father, Like Son

Philippe Delambre has grown up studying the works of his father, Andre. He has learned quite a lot and wants to repair his fathers equipment. He told his uncle, François, about his plans but his uncle swears he has no funds left to help. Philippe does end up funding his project and repairs all of the equipment. He follows in his father's footsteps. The Fly has in fact returned.

This Fly is violent, unlike Andre's Fly. Andre locked himself in his laboratory and never harmed his wife Helene. Philippe's Fly has the murderous thoughts of a fly.

I find Andre's story tragic - heartbreaking. Philippe's story isn't as heartbreaking because he knew the dangers of the experiment. Of course he would believe he has it right and will be more careful than his father Andre. Therefore, my heart doesn't go out to Philippe as much as it did for his father Andre.

Pretty good sequel to the original film - it's just not as good as the first. Vincent Price is back as François Delambre - Price's presence alone will make this film worth watching.

7.5/10
